You can’t pass through Stirling without encountering The Crossed Peels. The Wetherspoons pub, one of the largest in the area, is a new addition to the city, with work completed in 2014. The £1.5 million bar complex, which occupies a former tax office on Spittal Street, is hard to miss. Taking its name from the bakers shovels that form Stirling’s trade emblem, The Crossed Peels is a capacious pub with space for over 700 patrons. While the bar does a bustling trade, especially on weekends, it’s rarely filled to bursting point; step inside during the week and you should have no trouble finding a quiet table. In typical Wetherspoons fashion, the bar opens early; from 7am, patrons can pop in for a breakfast roll and fresh coffee, before switching to something a little stronger later in the day. A well-stocked bar offers a good selection of real ales, crafts beers, draught ciders and imported brands. There’s also an accomplished wine list and a good selection of hot drinks. A reasonably priced food menu is packed with promos through the week, allowing patrons to enjoy two meals for less than a tenner. The food is simple but satisfying, with hearty portions cooked to order. Tuck in to such classics as chilli con carne or pub staples that include British steak and kidney pudding. If you’re planning a night out in Stirling, a visit to The Crossed Peels is all but assured.

Good value. Well thought out. Plenty of seating but you never feel like you\'re sat on top if someone else's night out.
